Half Way Through The Term!

As I type I am sitting in class listening to a guest speaker who literally is putting people to sleep. Poor guy is a Lawyer, and talks like one. Monotone, Droning, and thinks we are all as excited about discussing Riparian Rights as he is.

A lot has happened since my last post. My baby doll of a horse, Odessa, has a broken coffin bone and gets a year off of work at least. I was asked to train a friends stallion for her Summer 2010 and she is going to trade me 2 breedings to him. He is a beautiful black and white tobiano paint. I am going to breed Dess this spring so she has something to do whilst she's out of commission. I also think I am going to breed Aspen to him as well. I may just breed Dess 2 years in a row instead of Aspen but am not sure yet. This is still to be determined. I am planning on training Auzzie, Fallon and this stallion in the summer. I am actually fairly excited.

As far as the horses I have at school with me, right now it is my mothers mare Harli, and my lesson gelding Hickory. Then after Thanksgiving I will be brining Aspen down and taking Hickory and Harli home.

This weekend is Dad's weekend, so my parents are coming down tomorrow (Friday) to spend my birthday with me and then go to the game and some miscellaneous to do lists. Will post pictures later!

3 More Days!

Well I leave to head back to Corvallis in 3 Full days. I leave Monday Morning (the 14th). I am actually fairly excited to get back to my student life for a bit. I know the excitement won't last long but I am so sick of dealing with unhappy people it's a relief to know I am done in 2 days with dealing, then 1 day to pack, and off I go.

So Tuesday was a horrible, shitty, crappy, all around TERRIBLE day. I found out my Grandpa's cancer is terminal, A sales client decided to get pissy about a contract (still waiting for the spouses phone call ...), A lesson students mom got the wrong location and missed a lesson, and I was just ready to crawl into a hole and avoid people. I was already tired and stressed. It was also my first day of Physical Therapy.

Lucky the mom called and apologized for her error and for blaming me, still awaiting the husbands phone call on the unhappy contract, and I have had physical therapy every day this week and besides having sore muscles I feel good!

I went for a ride Wednesday morning with a friend of mine around my parents farm and my mare decided to be a brat and crop hop which could have turned out really bad if I wasn't leaning back from coming down a hill. It could have really torqued my back! She got her butt schooled all the way home. C-Patterns for Dess at the lope!!! About 150 of em!!!! She seemed to know her mistake quite well.

Tonight was the Mavericks playday and my 7 year old student Tayla did VERY well. She still about forgot her patterns (don't know what I am going to do with that kid lol) but she RAN the barrels and probably shaved 5-10 seconds off her time on the run home! I was impressed. My other student riding his own horse loped EVERY single pattern which is a HUGE feat for him who normally doesn't lope very often.

I decided to quit giving "Riding" lessons and start giving "Horsemanship" lessons BEFORE riding lessons. I may end up losing some students but I am OK with that. They weren't students I enjoyed anyways if thats the case!

I am taking Dess to school with me this year. Lots of Groundwork for miss Dessy pooh. She has some manners to work out. My friend offered to pony her on the trails with me until she gets comfortable on them so I don't hurt my back if she went to try anything. That was thoughtful and a request I am accepting!

I am on Feeding duty every weekday morning for the next 2 weeks (excluding Monday of course) at my boarding barn. This means EARLY mornings for miss Jaci! Oh well, I can deal. 5am isn't THAT bad!

Anyways ... Still 2 more days of Hell to live through and might want to do so with some sleep so more updates later!

Life comes at you fast!

Well I am singing the same song many Americans are these days. Too much debt!

Being a senior in college I have had the pleasure of wracking up $7,500 in school debt with another $15,000 to come (2 more years). I will be leaving college with $22,500 in debt!

My mother was very kind 1 year ago to loan me some start-up money to buy a lesson horse, business cards, and other odds and ins needed to run my business. I have yet to pay her back even though my business is actually quite successful considering the dreaded sentence "bad times." Most of my students didn't cut back much.

I owe my Dad for some money he fronted me in 2006 with interest. I have paid the interest ALL off but still owe the initial balance (go figure).

I THEN still owe for the wonderful trailer I drive.

I started a NEW business 2 weeks ago in addition to my current business. They go hand in hand in reality though. I am now selling horses for clients who don't want to deal with the parade of phone calls and e-mails or don't know how to use the Internet. Most are ranchers with good stock but bad selling history (from not being persistent on their price or underselling completely). I have 6 clients and 12 horses. Already sold 2! So I had 14. I think this could help me dig myself out of those loans I will owe and already owe on! Not to mention the small bills I owe on my credit card (those are at least in control!).

Ok. My debt rant is over. I have been working THREE jobs for the past 2 weeks. I have been going from 6am to 10pm or later NON stop. I was good for a while but now I am dragging. I leave to go back to school in 2 1/2 weeks so I will get a small break there but still can't stop. I am determined to get out of debt and start saving some money for retirement, emergency funds etc... by December 2010! My Goal!

Today my mom is coming home from Portland, and my friend Rachael and her mom are coming. It'll be nice to have some distractions from my chair jail.

We had to take our old 8-9y/o Lab to the Vet yesterday. He apparently sucked up a grass stem into his nose which caused him to sneeze to the point of not being able to breathe and even gave him a slight bloody nose. It was around 3-4 Inches. The vet kept it for me.

The front page of the Observer actually had something more than small town. Apparently a HUMAN hand was found in a small pond in Elgin ... a head was also found in a backpack once they drained the lake. It was on Boise Cascade land. ** Freaky! We had a murder last year but it was a hit not random. My dad seems to think that this one is a serial killer due to the brutality. I think its a domestic violence case gone bad. Really Bad!

Still waiting for my 1st professor to get my next assignment to me, and waiting for my New professor to get my first one to me... THIS is frustrating.

Bored and Waiting

So today has been creeping by and I figure most of the days will now. I can't give lessons for another 4-5 weeks and even then I will need an assistant to help lift saddles etc.. for the young ones.

I have watched probably 30 episodes of NCIS and 2 movies. I have 5 books sitting around me and I cannot bring myself to open them. I normally hate watching this much TV and I love the peace and tranquility of reading, but I don't know what else to do!

I have started writing a book. I have started many so this statement is not a new one, but I have never finished one. I am thinking of writing some kids books too. Obviously horse driven.

Last week I started going for my Riding Instructors certificate. Then I decided to go for the entire Equine Studies bachelors degree on top of my Ag Business Degree. I love horses and I want to learn all the different avenues of horses I can. Including the farming side (different types of hay and how to successfully grow them etc...)

I have acquired yet another student, this one is 4 1/2 years old! Wow some of these guys start young. Guess I need to maybe write a book on kids games with horses... Once I create some.

Surgery Day

Well this is fun. No food, water, not even candy to suck on or anything and my surgery isn't until 1PM!!!!

I know I won't die of starvation or dehydration in 10 hours but it's still the pits. I have to do NOTHING for 10 days except lay and walk. Then for the next 4 1/2 weeks I have to walk, sit and lay. then after that I have to slowly resume normal activity and start phyiscal therapy. This is just NO fun. I am missing out on at least 6 weeks of giving lessons thats at least $1000 right there!

I am not looking forward to this!

Spring or Summer?

Well, I officially suck at keeping this blog updated... Only 88 visitors so oh well!

It has been very hot. I have been giving lessons on average about 7-10 hours a week. Not much but thats ONLY lesson time not commute time too. So essentially, part time job. It's nice having the extra income.

I will be farming this summer, as well as helping some 4-H kids with their horse projects. I enjoy helping them more than I enjoy giving lessons. I am actually starting to get excited about going back to Corvallis for my SENIOR YEAR!!! It is going to take me 5yrs so I will be done June 2011. Oh well, thats not that far off. I plan on going to the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia for my Masters and then my Doctorate if I can get my grades up enough. The ag college there is in St. Lucia. I am excited for this experience.

I can't wait to go swimming now thats it hot and all, and hopefully my bum hip will feel better in water. I have been dealing with the muscled AROUND my sciatic nerve for the past 2 1/2 - 3mths, and it's killer. It's painful and exhausting and when it's flaring I can't ride which is the absolute pits. I have so many projects right now and not enough time inbetween flare ups to train. This is starting to wear on me.

Last weekend I went fishing at Wallowa Lake with my Grandpa and his boat. We didn't even get a bite. So Sad. I remember catching a 22" trout not more than 3 years ago in that same spot, and I ended up with the flu that afternoon after catching it. June 2006.

Krista Jo leaves next weekend for Africa for 2 1/2 years. She will be in the Peace Corps in Mauritauna (spelling?). She's excited and ready to get out of here. Her blog for this is http://kristajoweishaar.blogspot.com ...

I will post this on the side bar like the rest.

Ta Ta for now!

Update

Ok. So here is an update on my ever changing life.

1) I am taking ONLY online classes next term (spring term) and living in La Grande. Partially this is because of my students getting a bit restless to get started on lessons again, and partially because I like La Grande, and this will be my last chance to do this as I will be a senior next year and have more specialized classes.

2) I am still in-between disciplines with my horses. Besides giving lessons and training my own, I am going to go to an Equine Appraisal school for 1 week in the spring, as well as the Equissage mentioned before (most likely in the summer for that). I am considering attending some Trail Competitions in Baker this year with Aspen, but I have a long way to go before I would call her and myself ready for it.

3) Weight Loss Goal: 15lbs by Spring Break. (That is 5 weeks. So very feasable). I have already lost 21 lbs and intend to keep it off and keep losing!

Equine Message and Victory Acres

Hey Everyone. Update from Corvallis.

I have decided to pursue Equine Message probably this summer. It's a home study course through "Equissage." I wanted to do this a year or so ago but it was a program based in Colorado (not Virginia) and I was not accepted because of physical discrimination. This is something I have always been a firm believer of and am really excited about finally getting another chance to pursue it.

No... this does not mean that I am quitting school. This will be in addition to school.

New Year ... Months since posting!

Well, sorry for those who actually watch my blog, it's been pretty damn hectic in my life of late.

Updates:

I have a job. It's part time (6 hrs a week) from 11:45pm to 2:45am Friday and Saturday nights. I work for the Beaver Bus as a monitor. It's not a bad job. Not my ideal life choice, but it keeps me entertained. I pretty much am the bus drivers eyes and ears. If someone tries to start something, or is being loud or obnoxious, it's my job to quiet them down.

I am taking 17 credit hours this term, much more Agriculture classes so my interest is peaked for now. I am also taking Financial Accounting, and grrr Chemistry 122. The good news is it's my last term of Chemistry. YAY!

Aspens doing good, I am going to start taking lessons with a lady at my barn named Val. Her and I don't really share thoughts on training techniques but my personal riding needs an uplift. Too much time spent on my students, and not enough on myself and my body positions.

In March my cousin is doing another Mustang Competition, and I actually get to be there as it is only 10 miles away from me now. Albany, Oregon. It's the end of Finals week after all of my finals are done. The only glitch with this is going home a couple days later than I would have, but oh well!

Gotta get ready for work, but I promise this time I will post more!
